The Shri Bark Story

Alison Bologna, a local television news anchor in Rhode Island, opened Shri Studio in 2010 to serve the state’s most vulnerable populations by operating yoga outreach programs in her immediate neighborhood.  During that time, while she taught in the studio, her better half spent his time baking snacks in their apartment down the street.

Soon, people started asking them: “These are good! Where do I buy them?” So the two decided to try them out at a yogathon fundraiser raising dollars for their 501(c)3 nonprofit arm, Shri Service Corps.

Within a few weeks, the demand for the snacks dictated the need to go from their home kitchen to a nut-free commercial bakery, and within two months, the largest Whole Foods market in the state invited them onto their shelves. More markets followed, healthy vending, coffee shops, other yoga studios - and then all of the state’s schools.

Since then, sales have been growing, but what’s been especially sweet, has been the ability of Shri Bark to fulfill its primary mission of helping fund its nonprofit arm.
