The Dish: Shri Bark Healthy Snacks a Hit at Local Schools

Alison Bologna has devoted much of her time to introducing healthy snacks into schools, and now it’s finally happening. Bologna, known as a WJAR-TV NBC 10 morning news co-anchor, as well as a certified yoga teacher and nonprofit leader, has recently introduced Shri Bark “A Smart School Snack” into local schools.

Bologna started Shri, an urban outreach yoga studio in 2009, and a few years later, came up with the new concept of Shri Bark, a nut-free, fruit, oat and seed square. In 2014, she tested out her product in the retail market. Since then, a number of stores have signed on to carry the snack, including Eastside Marketplace, Tom’s Market, the Coffee Exchange and even Whole Foods.

Flash forward to the present: Bringing these healthy snacks into schools is a no-brainer. “We thought it would be a great initiative because they are nut-free,” says Bologna.
